Follows laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations
What You Will Do
- Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
- Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results.
- Evaluates results of laboratory tests according to laboratory protocols to ensure quality patient care.
- Documents all laboratory activities according to policies and procedures
- Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
- Takes responsibility for self-development
- Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines.
- Is active participant in departmental projects
- Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
- Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members.
- Assesses competency of team members as assigned.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; Requirement specific in CLIA ’88 to perform high complexity testing. (Required) or
- Bachelor’s Degree in other field (Required) and
- Associate’s Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent are also acceptable. (Required)
Work Experience
- 2+ years Experience in a highly complex laboratory setting preferred

- Works in multiple laboratory sections/disciplines independently (3 or more).
- Displays ability to effectively train students and new team members
- Good understanding of laboratory operations
