Job Description & Qualifications
The Analytics Consulting Engineer will provide consulting services to the system-wide analytics community, focusing on complex analytics use cases and customer-facing problem solving discussions. Strong communication skills and the ability to understand customer needs are crucial for ensuring successful delivery of data driven insights. They will be responsible for understanding intricate, large-scale data models for healthcare clinical and business systems, along with the underlying associated processes. The Analytics Consulting Engineer will participate in evaluating new strategic data requests and perform the necessary analyses to determine feasibility, requirements, budget, execution, design, and resource needs. Activities will include collaborating with customers and peers to design, develop, modify, and test data marts and data models, as well as engaging in projects related to building and creating analytics solutions.
What You Will Do
- Responsible for working with key customers and stakeholders to understand their analytics needs and challenges. Conduct detailed consultations to gather requirements and define analytics solutions that align with the business use cases and objectives defined by the customer.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication, continually demonstrating value, and acting as a trusted advisor. Use customer feedback to refine and enhance analytics solutions and consulting approaches.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and executive leadership to integrate analytics solutions into existing systems and processes. Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and meet performance requirements.
- Create visualizations and prototypes to demonstrate potential analytics solutions, helping customers to conceptualize the final product and provide feedback.
- Analyze data using SQL, leveraging diverse data sources, such as electronic health record data, insurance claims data, scheduling and financial data to develop flexible, efficient and valued reporting content.
- Participate in the peer review process by evaluating code from team members and colleagues related to data analysis, ETL processes, and report generation, ensuring compliance with best practices and organizational standards.
- Develop and maintain system-wide dashboards and metrics for C-suite executives (e.g., CEO, CMO, COO, CNO) that summarize complex data into concise, easy-to-understand formats. Participate in system-wide leader forums to communicate analytics updates, introduce new reporting content, and provide overviews of new features as requested.
- Meet one-on-one with executives to orient them to dashboards and metrics related to their areas of oversight and enhance their analytics literacy.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data analytics and business intelligence. Innovate and experiment with new analytical techniques and tools to enhance service offerings.
- Engage in customer-facing forums, including Enterprise Reporting office hours, Analytics Community Q&A sessions, and ad hoc analytics workshops.
- Create user guides, training materials, toolkits, and best practice documents to help customers effectively utilize the analytics solutions. Update documentation on an annual basis or when changes occur.
- Regularly monitor and perform work on Epic Analytics Upgrades, Best Practice and Achievement programs, including Nova Notes new features, Special Updates (SU) and Upgrades, Staying Current enhancements, and Gold Stars program.
Additional Responsibilities

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Required) and
- Master’s Degree (Preferred)
Work Experience
- 5+ years Related information technology experience (Required) and
- 3+ years Experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, SSRS, Informatica and Qlik (Required) and
- Experience with RDBMS platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, and/or MySQL) (Required) and
- Experience in clinical or business reporting and analytics (Required) and
- Strong understanding and experience with Epic Cogito data platform tools including Radar, SlicerDicer, and Reporting Workbench (Preferred) and
- Experience working in cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Power BI Cloud (Preferred) and
- Experience with software Version Control Systems such as MS TFS, GitHub, and Dev Ops (Preferred) and
- Experience in the healthcare domain is strongly (Preferred)

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with various levels in an organization (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge and understanding of standardized Data Administration concepts, i.e. data modeling, data dictionary development, metadata management and data governance concepts (Preferred proficiency)
