University Hospitals, in partnership with Lakeland Community College and Kent State University -Ashtabula (KSU-A), is offering a new Registered Nurse (RN) Apprenticeship program to obtain the education and skills needed to become an RN at UH Lake West and UH Tripoint Medical Centers.
RNs provide safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using the nursing process to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status. The RN implements the nursing process by delivering effective relationship-based nursing care, demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes, demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations, develops self and contributes to the professional practice of nursing and displays leadership that influences optimal clinical and operational outcomes.
This program will follow a milestone model where selected candidates will receive tiered bonuses as the candidate achieves certain milestones. The candidate will be hired into a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) role with a minimum 24-hour work commitment per 6-week schedule period performing PCNA responsibilities (days/hours may vary). PCNAs complete patient care activities as delegated by the RN and perform duties including, but not limited to, ADLs, vital signs, I’s and O’s, 12 lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene and venipuncture where applicable.
The Lakeland Community College and KSU-A programs prepare students to obtain a Nursing Degree and sit for their NCLEX upon program completion to obtain licensure as an RN. Upon successful completion of the program and receipt of licensure, you will be promoted to a UH Medical-Surgical RN with a 1-year commitment at UH Lake West or UH Tripoint Medical Centers.

Must be a current UH employee or a student from Lakeland Community College or Kent State University-Ashtabula

For current UH employees—good standing, up to date on all education requirements

Must obtain admission to and maintain successful enrollment in the Lakeland Community College or KSU-A nursing program

Must work a minimum of 24 hours per 6-week schedule period

Prior direct patient care experience preferred but not required.

Must have High School Diploma or GED

BLS certification must be obtained during UH orientation

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of posting of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, union negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
